Reduce PDF size while checking readability

A certificate or scanned document can be too large for an upload form even when it contains only a few pages. This PDF compressor tries to reach a maximum file size that you enter. It processes one PDF at a time, up to 20 MB and 20 pages, in your browser. No account or document upload is needed. Password-protected or damaged files need a working, unlocked copy first.

Choose the PDF and enter the maximum size in KB. For a form asking for a PDF under 200 KB, start with a maximum of 200 and review the measured output; if the form uses a strict less-than limit, allow some room below it. File sizes here use 1 KB = 1,024 bytes. Leave the minimum at zero unless the receiving website specifies one. The original is retained unchanged when it already fits the maximum.

Read and confirm the flattening warning before preparing a copy. When compression is needed, the tool renders pages as images and tries lower resolutions and JPG quality levels. This removes selectable text, links, interactive forms and digital signatures. Do not use this process on a digitally signed PDF if its signature must remain valid. Keep the source file because the prepared copy cannot restore those features.

Compare the original and prepared previews page by page, especially small text, stamps and fine lines. Then inspect the downloaded PDF at full size. A very tight target may be impossible without making the document unreadable; the tool keeps the smallest candidate and marks the failed size check. It does not promise that every PDF can be compressed to any target. If allowed, split a long document or ask the receiving organization for a larger limit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I compress a PDF to 200 KB?

Set that maximum and prepare a copy. A small document may fit; a detailed or long one may not. The checklist reports whether the target was met.

Why did my PDF not become smaller?

It may already fit the limit or be efficiently compressed. The tool keeps the original if it cannot create a smaller candidate.

Will text remain selectable?

Not in a flattened copy. The pages become images; retain the original for searchable text and document features.

Are compressed files uploaded to a server?

No. Compression, previews and download creation run on your device.
